Please reasure owners of lost pets that all animals will be held for an extended period:

"At this time, the GBHS, Tuscaloosa Metro, and BJC Animal Control Services, are not euthanizing animals to make room for displaced pets. We are in constant contact with other agencies around the country to facilitate transports to other areas of the country of PRE-STORM pets to make room for displaced animals while we wait to reunite them with their owners. If you know of a shelter in this area that IS euthanizing animals to make room for displaced pets, please contact Stephanie at fostercare@gbhs.org and let her know. We will do our best to put them in contact with the agencies facilitating transports."

A reminder from Animal Control:

As with all areas affected by the tornadoes... PLEASE ask everyone to remember that these are likely someone's pets! Our goal should be reuniting these babies with their families. We have multiple dogs at the shelter that have owners that are hospitalized. We are happy to hold them here until they can have a chance to come find their pups. If you can't take a found dog to your local shelter, please let your shelter know that you have found the dog, and give a detailed description. Greater Birmingham Humane Society has set up a hotline for us specifically for lost/found animals. If you have found a dog/cat or are looking for yours, please call 205-397-8534 (for Jefferson and Tuscaloosa Counties). BJC Animal Control continues to pick up dogs and cats in the affected areas... and rescue trailers are located in Pleasant Grove (at Hill's Food Center) and Concord (at Earnest United Methodist Church) to supply food, water, bowls, collars, etc... as well as take in found animals and gather information on lost pets.

Thank you!
